General Audio Troubleshooting tips:

  • Test your audio by pressing the TALK button with your mouse or holding down the CTRL key
  • you should see the mike audio meter bar light up green
  • Are the Mic or Speaker symbols under your Local AV Window RED - Muted?
  • Has the sound ever worked outside of iVisit?
  • Speakers and Mic plugged in and turned on?
  • Updated Sound Card drivers installed?
  • Are the Sound Card and Mic selected under iVisit Preferences?
  • Other audio programs disabled? (PC NetMeeting, MSN, Yahoo! Messenger, Music players?)

Specific PC and Mac troubleshooting tips :

PC SECTION:

Adjusting Audio Basic prep
Click Settings > Preferences > Audio
Set both slide bar percent readings to the 150% range to start.

Adjusting Audio #1

  1. Click Settings > Preferences > Audio Ensure the Input Recording device is set to your Mic
  2. Ensure the Output Playback device is set to your output device
  3. Place a check mark in the option for Full Duplex option
  4. Select VBR (44kbps ave) or ADPCM4 (32kbp)

Adjusting Audio #2
In your small AV window click the arrow > next to Audio and on that menu;
Adjust Speaker and Mic volumes
On the arrow > across right from Audio is another menu;
Select 'Push to Talk' and 'Switch to Mic on PTT'

Error message on start up: "Failed to open audio output device"
This means that the audio card is either not functioning, not installed or is incapable of full duplex. If not full duplex compliant, only one piece of software at a time can utilize the audio card. Suggest closing all other audio applications and trying to start iVisit again

WOODPECKER EFFECT/CHOPPY AUDIO (Cable/DSL ONLY)

  1. Click Settings > Preferences > Connection Management > Bandwidth Caps: 500 / 500
  2. Click Settings > Preferences > Codecs > Audio: ADPCM4 (32kbps)
  3. Click Settings > Preferences > Audio > Place a check mark in the option for Full Duplex

PC TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS ON THE SYSTEM ITSELF:
SPEAKER TROUBLES:

  1. Check to be sure the VOLUME CONTROL icon in the lower left of your computer isn't MUTED (Yellow Speaker with red circle and slash)
  2. Double click the VOLUME CONTROL icon to bring up the PLAY CONTROL WINDOW and be sure that WAV VOLUME is selected and turned up above 50% and MASTER VOLUME is at least at 50%.

MICROPHONE TROUBLES:

  • In Windows itself in the lower right hand corner of the computer you will see an icon underneath the clock which looks like a right facing loudspeaker this is the volume control.
  • Double click that volume control icon this will bring up the play control window.
  • In the play control window click options > properties
  • In the properties window select recording and then be sure microphone is checked then click ok
  • You will now see the record control window
  • In the record control window be sure that microphone has a select in the check box and that the "volume" for the microphone is at 50%
  • If under the microphone volume there is an advanced button click it
  • Then check 1 mic boost (20db)

IF VOLUME CONTROL BUTTON IS NOT VISIBLE:
click START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL >
DOUBLE CLICK MULTIMEDIA > and
at the BOTTOM of this widow click SHOW VOLUME CONTROL ON TASK BAR
click OK

TESTING YOUR MIC and SPEAKERS
Click Start > Programs > Accessories > Sound recorder
Here you can record audio then play back to test

MAC SECTION:

OS X (OS 8 - 9 section click here)
iVisit OSX audio options are set in the System Preferences > Sound control panel. Adjust your audio there for system wide use and it will work for iVisit. Also be sure to have the latest QuickTime installed. 6.4 or greater.

AUDIO OUT

  1. Go to applications folder > utilities > Apple system profiler
  2. Go to the "Devices and Volumes" tab at the top
  3. Make sure the Microphone shows up in the proper port (USB, FIREWIRE)

Adjusting Audio OS 8.5 - 9 #1

  1. Click Settings > Audio Device Settings
  2. Check the SOURCE device and input are set to your mic
  3. Check the SPEAKER is ON and that the GAIN is at 110%

Adjusting Audio #2

  1. In your Local AV window click the black arrow across right from Audio and on that menu
  2. Select 'Push to Talk', and check Speaker and Mic are not muted
  3. On the Codec menu select VBR (44kbps ave) or ADPCM4 (32kbps)

Make sure system audio is set correctly in Mac OS

  1. Go to apple menu > system preferences > sound
  2. Go to "input" tab and select proper input device
  3. Set input volume to high by sliding the bar to the right
  4. Make sure there is no check make in the "mute sound" box at the bottom of this window
  5. Test sound in Input window for "line in" microphones to make sure you are getting a volume level in the system

NOTE: Sound Panel can only be changed after you quit iVisit

Testing your Audio by recording: OS 8 - 9.X

  1. Go to Control panels > Sound > Alerts To test your Mic.
  2. Click new sound
  3. Click record button
  4. Talk into microphone
  5. Press stop
  6. Press play, hopefully you will hear yourself Speaking.

You can also now Pause local AV and Drag-N-Drop a still image onto your screen.
